Search and Find

One of the children's favorite activities of late has been digging for fossils!  I've been kicking myself that I didn't pick up 10 more of these treasure eggs when I was in Augusta recently.  The Christmas Tree Shop had them for $1.69 each! Such a deal.  The children LOVED picking away at the clay and rock to discover the bones of the mighty dinosaurs that once walked the earth (we used our magic imaginations).  Your kids became junior paleontologist as they discovered a T-Rex, a Stegosaurus and two Triceratops!

Winter

Today we classified 'living' and 'non-living' items, created dinosaur habitats, took turns hiding objects in the mystery bag and made snowball cookies for afternoon snack. 

Toward the end of our time together, Katy looked out the window and excitedly said,  

"There is a Lizard out there Teacher!"

Silly me, I thought there was nothing cuter than Katy calling me "Teacher", boy was I wrong.

I hope each and every one of you are safe and warm inside and not out with the lizard.

Every Way You Look At It

Some days go by faster than others, don't they? In some ways I feel like the past week or so has been flying by and I keep trying to catch up. With my right-hand woman Jenn out, I will say I'm a bit thrown off. Change, although challenging at times, can be good too. It's great to see Ian in the classroom again. Out of all the teachers I've known in my life, he has taught me the most.

In the photo collage above, there is a blurry photo of my oldest son Nathan playing guitar for the children. He was reluctant at first but I think he enjoyed himself when all was said and done, and I know the kids did too. In the bottom left photo Ian is asking Lucas about his teeth; are they sharp and jagged like the T-Rex had or even like a plant eater had?

I hope it has not caused too much chaos in your homes, with all these small dinosaurs running and roaring about! We are all continuing to have fun learning about the big creatures that once roamed the earth. More to follow!

More Dinomania!

Digging for fossils is so much fun! The children are enjoying learning about what different dinosaurs ate and how they moved and just how BIG they really were. In the photo collage above, Esme (center) is digging for a dinosaur fossil. She later discovered, with the help of her friends, that it was a stegosaurus skeleton! The bottom left photo shows Jack and Sam K using the dinosaurs to pretend play on the dinosaur habitat play mat. The bottom right photo shows Katy and Drew J taking turns to sort the dinosaurs by color. Drew K is making a "long neck dinosaur" by connecting Styrofoam balls together with toothpicks to form the dinosaur's long neck. And Emmet (top right) is a young paleontologist in the making searching for the upper left arm bone of the T-Rex skeleton.
I hope you are having as much fun as we are learning about dinosaurs this month!
